This year starts for you with this spectacular documentary onyour family

Icouldn’thave hoped for anything better. But tell me, because you're a musical person, I thought, let me ask you about my father's songs and Rajeshji Roshan's songs.

Your father Roshan Saab’s songs are immortal. With due respects, your brother is no patch on your father. In fact, Rajeshji has, you know, appropriated some of your father's songs quite cleverly. Roshan Saab needs to be celebrated the most.

My idea was that only. But then I thought, we the other Roshans have also contributed. But tell me, Subhash, while watching, you're not getting bored or something?

No, no, it's very well cut. And there are no boring moments at all.

My story starts in Episode 3, mine and Hrithik's, that's more interesting. My story has a journey. My father's episode and my episode, both the episodes have their journeys. My father started from nowhere.I started from nowhere.

Yes, yes. That’s true. When Hrithik came in, he had a legacy already to fall back on

His first film was a hit, so you know. Even with my brother Rajesh, his first film, Julie, was a hit, so you know, he couldn't see much of a struggle.

But I want to know about this project, very well-deserved project. Who thought of it, you or your co-producer Shashi Ranjan?

Shashi has got a good knowledge about music. He was telling me one day that your father didn't get the due what he wanted because he passed away very early when he was only 49. So, he said, let's make a documentary on him.

Oh, so it started as a documentary only on Roshan Saab?

Only on my father. Then I thought that documentary will be too short because people who know him are no more. Only I can talk about him. I went to Ameen Sayani saab. I had to pull him out of the bed and take his interview. He couldn't speak much. So, you know, then there was nobody, only AshaBhsole, Suman Kalyanpur and Sudha Malhotra.

Latajiand Mukesh who contributed immensely toRoshan Saab’s compositions are no more

Yeah, so my brother Rajesh is there, he can share his own journey. I am there. If after I go, somebody makes a documentary on me, will have not much substance in it. Subhash, the sad point is, in our industry, all the stalwarts, there is no documented (history). Not Dilip Kumar, not Bimal Roy, not Mahmood Khan, not K. R. Saif, no Raj Kapoor, no Ranjit Kumar, means nobody. No Dev Anand. This is the first documented series.

I am sure this will start a new trend of going into the past and pulling out all these legacies

It should inspire people, you know, that's the most. The most important thing is to get the attention of youngsters these days. I had shown some youngsters, 40-50 youngsters. They didn't know that songs like ‘Rahen na rahen hum’, ‘Nigahen milane ko jee chahta hai’ and ‘Laga chunri mein daag’ are composed by my father. So, all these newcomers, I showed them, you know, 4, 5, 40, 50 people of them the documentary. And they responded very enthusiastically.

What do you feel about Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai being released again? Are you happy with that?

Yeah, yeah, very happy. See, this is just a celebration. I'm not looking at the figures. What figures it has done then, no films have done. That’s 25 years back. How many people have seen it? It is just a celebration. Whatever it is doing, it is just an icing on the cake for me. That's all.
